The laughter in the room when Brooks and Pryor combined their heads to create this one. A Jew making fun of Jews, a Black making fun of Blacks, two Western Americans making fun of the West, movie makers making fun of the movies. The childish fart-level humor at the campfire and utter screwball gags keep you rolling of the floor. This movie doesn't pretend to be anything more than screwball humor, but it's one of the funniest movies of all times!
This one of a kind classic funny movie was released on 7 Feb. 1974. Directed by Mel Brooks who also appeared in this movies playing dual parts as the incompentent and horny Governor and in one scene, an Indian chief. Harvey Korman as Hedly Lamarr comes in with a strong performance, but the main characters are played by Cleavon Little [Bart] and Gene Wilder [Jim--the Waco Kid]
The main plot of this movie is the destruction of a small western town for the enrichment of a corrupt political boss. Hedly Lamarr covinces the Governor to appoint a "black" sheriff to bring law and order to this town.
Hoping that the towns people will kill the new sheriff, the plot backfires on Larmarr and the [black] sheriff becomes his most formidable adversary.
The twists and turns that this film takes over the entire 93 minutes are shown as some of the most hilarious scenes ever put on the silver screen.
How anyone could even think of turning one scene [farting cowboys]into a laughable episode is pure brilliance.
This film will always be remembered as one of the funniest comedy movies ever made.
